(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1979-034
INSPECTION DATE 07/29/03
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Gardner Gravel Pit, Permit No. M-1979-034, conducted by Erica
Crosby of the Colorado Division of Minerals & Geology. Doug Redmond of General Operating
Company was present during the inspection.
The site is located 5 miles east of Oak Creek, in Routt County Colorado. A 110 permit was
issued to Farrington Contracting on May 26, 1981. The permit was transferred to General
Operating Company in 1992. In 1998 the site was converted from a 110 to a 112 permit for a
total permit area of 40 acres. The Division currently holds a financial warranty in the
amount of $45,250.00.
The operation consists of a quarry located west of Stagecoach Reservoir. The nature of the
deposit is metamorphosed granite consisting of gneiss and schist. The quarry is
approximately 100 feet high from top to bottom. Mining was taking place during the
inspection. Mining involves removing the material with an excavator from a designated bench
area. The excavator pushes the material to the bottom of the hill where it is loaded into the
crusher with a front-end loader.
The postmining land use for the site is rangeland. Reclamation of the site involves a number
of 20' to 30' high benches to be constructed on the steep face of the mine. The flat portion
of the benches will be covered with topsoil and seeded with the approved seed mixture. The
lowest bench will be graded to 3h:ly and spread with 6" to 12" of topsoil. No reclamation
has been conducted to date due to the current mining conditions. The operator should be
reminded to start benching the slopes as soon as practical under the mining operation to
minimize disturbance and keep the reclamation cost down.
A mine identification sign was posted at the entrance to the site. Permit boundary markers
were noted that delineated the mine area.
I & 8 Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Doug Redmond ^ BL
OPERATOR General Operating Company ^ FS
STREET PO BOx 223 ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Yampa, Colorado 80483 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
cc: Carl Mount; DMG (via a-mail)
