INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE NO. M-77-573
DATE: July 17, 1985
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1 . The western portion of Stage II was bing filled with wasterock material .
2. The southwest slope of Stage II was graded to final slope configuration;
topsoiling and revegetation efforts are required.
3. The northern pit wall , adjacent to the railroad easement, is nearly
vertical . Mr. Cramb mentioned the possibility of acquiring the railroad
easement, such that mining can continue through the embankment, enabling
the creation a continuous reclaimed "basin" .
4. Three topsoil stockpiles were noted in Stage II , two of which were
unvegetated, the third was weed covered and had a road traversing over
its crest.
5. The northern banks of Stage I are currently being backfilled with
concrete-slab rip-rap and unconsolidated material . The southern banks
of Stage I and the entirety of Stage 0 were graded to final slope
configuration; topsoiling and revegetation are required.
6. The "Gravel Plant Processing Area" should be included in the permitted
affected-land acreage.
7. Stage III has not been affected.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1 . Topsoil stockpiled longer than one growing season should be graded to
slopes no steeper than 3H:1V and seeded with a perennial cover crop for
conservation purposes.
2. Vehicular traffic should be prohibited on topsoil stockpiles to prevent
compaction, contamination, and otherwise degredation of this valuable
resource.
3. Please submit an amendment to the Division increasing the affected land
acreage to include the land affected by the "Gravel Plant Processing
Area" . Bond adjustment for this site has been previously discussed;
please incorporate the additional affected acreage (amended) in your
Reclamation Cost Estimate.
CMF/ddt
2470F
