III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observafions
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Janet Binns of CDMG. The weather at the time of the inspection was
raining steadily. Summer growing season has been unusually dry. Entire state has been declared, in drought
conditions. Current precipitation was first the area had received in a long time.
Signs & Markers : Mine LD, signs remain posted, legible and contains required information.
Hydrologic Balance: No runoff was occurring in spite of the steady rain. No water is held in the pond. No
runoff was flowing in the collection ditch. No erosional features were observed.
Reve eg tation: Cover on the reclaimed mine site is good. Bromegrass is dominant. Some annual and biennial,
Wooly mullein, weeds are present but not toxic to livestock. Cattle have been fenced out of the mine site and
have effectively been kept from grazing on the reclaimed site this summer..
Slides: No new movement of the rock fall was noted.
Reclamation success: The entire state has been subject to a drought this summer. The reclaimed mine shows
good cover though visually dominated by one species. Species normally seen in the reclaimed community may
have dried up early do to the unusual conditions this year. The vegetation does not appear to have been killed off
by the extreme weather condition. Recovery of the vegetative community in the spring will be visually assessed
by DMG.
