The operator was contacted about the
inspection and was present onsite throughout the inspection.
The permit ID sign was posted a[ the entrance to the pit, and the four corners were marked by two-foot rebar. Present disturbance
will not extend farther to the east. The operator stated that he felt there was about 100 to 200 feet more distance within the permit
west of the present pit limit. The operator should be aware that, based on where the western two corners markers were actually
observed there is only about 50 feet more distance from the edge of the pit. Please ensure that sufficient material is left to either
knock down or that the appropriate slope gradient is created during mining, so that material does not have to be imported to attain
the reclamation slopes specified in the plan.
The pit daylights at the level of the access road on the south side, Mining is about 10 feet deep, and has affected less than 3 acres.
A portion of the highwall on the north side has been graded to 3:1, and about 1001ineal feet of the highwall are still nearly vertical.
The pit floor is fairly level, stockpiled material is minimal, and there is no equipment or structure onsite. Brushy vegetation and a
small bit of topsoil has been stripped and piled along the permit margins; the stripped portions of the permit still contain a good
amount of topsoil and exhibit good volunteer revegetation. Reclamation based on current disturbance would be simple.
The current bond is 55000, and is considered to be adequate. A bond recalculation will be performed in the future, and the revised
figures will be sent to the operator for review. If reclamation is performed by the operator, those tasks should be communicated
to this office since the bond amount may be influenced.
A five-gallon bucket of waste oil was observed on the site (none was spilled on the soill, but the bucket was removed by the
operator. There was no other debris.
There were no problems observetl or other items discussed.
