III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
William J. Carter from the Division of Minerals and Geology conducted a
partial inspection at the Bowie Mine #1. In attendance during this inspection
was Mr. Basil Bear representing Bowie Resources, Ltd.
This site received approximately one half inch of rain the night before this
inspection.
Markers and Sims:
The boundary markers and topsoil signs that were out of order at the last
inspection have been corrected as required.
Crushing and Screening Area:
The drop structure at this location has been covered and straw bales have
been used to control the sediment in this location. Due to the rain last night
this structure will need cleaning again to remove accumulated sediment
material. Because of this additional effort to control sediment at this location
a great deal of sediment was contained here rather than washing into pond
#2.
Run of Mine Pile:
During the inspection, activity was underway in removing material from this
location. According to the equipment operator, over 70 trucks, holding
approximately 12 cubic yards of material each, have been removed over the
last two weeks. It is estimated that another 20 loads will be removed at this
time.
West Mine Rd.:
Due to the rain several of the culverts along the road are starting to collect
soils and are scheduled to be cleaned out today. This maintenance procedure
will protect the road from erosion due to overtopping the culverts if there is
another weather event tonight.
Ponds•
Pond #1 contains water at about 2 to 2 1/2 feet below the primary outlet.
Pond #2 contained water at about 4 inches below the primary outlet.
According to Mr. Bear he released water from this pond to pond #3 last night
during the rain.
Pond #3 this pond also contained water at 41 inches below the primary outlet.
Pond #4 was dry at this time. rte/
Training Trailer Pond contained water vS~ll below the primary outlet.
Page 1 0[ 2
