Hydrologic Balan
Due to persistent dry condition on a regional level, the two remaining sediment ponds at the
mine site continue to be dry. No evidence of any recent runoff entering the pond was
observed. The two ponds at the coal loadout were also found dry. The north pond is larger
and has an estimated 2.8 acre-ft of sediment and water holding capacity below the drop inlet
riser. The south pond has an estimated 1.0 acre-ft of sediment and water holding capacity
below the drop inlet riser. All dewatering gates were found closed and primary and
emergency spillways appeared in functional condition on all ponds.
Processing Waste
The processing waste pile appeared normal, with no evidence of slumps, slides, or damage
Revegetation
The shrub mortality at the former pond 3 area seems higher than other areas of the mine
where shrubs were transplanted Out of the four species transplanted, only ponderosa pine
and red cedar were observed. Many planting sites were devoid of evidence that any kind of
shrub has survived Wildlife grazing of these small shrubs is likely, especially for the
mountain mahogany species.
Offsite Suaport Facilities
The Newlin Creek topsoil pile footprint area was traversed on foot. The operator has recently
repaired the sdt fence sections at this site- No changes were noted at the Monarch Fan
area.
Overall, the area appeared normal for the late winter season with no problems noted
