III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This partial inspection of the Carbon Junction Mine was conducted by Wally Erickson
from the DMG field office in Durango, 484 Turner Drive, Building F, Suite 101, Durango,
CO 81301, phone (970) 247-5193. DMG inspector attempted to contact Mr. Jim
Hendricks, at his residence, but was unsuccessful.
Snow cover, approximately 2' deep, obscured the permit area. Gate at mine entrance
road was closed. Access road appeared to have been cleared sufficiently to allow.
heavy equipment traffic and high clearance four wheel drive vehicles only. Heavy
equipment appeared to be removing snow at the far south end of the permit area.
Mine identification sign was posted at the mine entrance.
Mine site was not accessible due to snow depth.
