Grasses and forties will atrophy ifthey are not utilized by harvest or
grazing and the reclaimed area will become dominated by woody plant species. The entire mine
acreage should be grazed on a periodic basis to maintain the range site at optimum plant
successional stage. The problems start when the plant community reaches a climax situation,
i.e. soil erosion, plant diseases, wildfire.
If there are any questions, please f 1 free to contact me at (719)672-3673 or drop by the office.
~~
Larry Kawanabe, District Conservationist
