." ' ~'
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This partial inspection of the Arness McGriffen Mine was conducted by Wally Erickson
from the DMG Durango Office, 484 Turner Drive, Building F, Suite 101, Durango, CO
81301, phone (970) 247-5469. The permit for the Coal Gulch Mine was revoked over
5 years ago. Financial warranty was forfeited and utilized for final reclamation. No
activities were observed, no personnel encountered during the time of this inspection.
Mine identification sign has been replaced by sign for Firehawk Contractors, 259-6440.
Entrance gate was open. Firehawk equipment and stockpiles of rock, soil, and
vegetative debris and industrial debris were located on site. Extent of redisturbance
created by Firehawk continues to increase.
Sediment pond was holding water approximately 1.5' depth, no discharge noted.
Weeds were established on pond embankment. Embankment appeared stable.
Backfilled and graded areas, not recently redisturbed by Firehawk activities, appeared
well vegetated and stable.
