(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2000-158
INSPECTION DATE 07/07/04 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OHSBRVATIONS
This was a pre-operation inspection of the S&H Pit, File No. M-2000-158 conducted by Erica
Crosby of the Colorado Division of Minerals & Geology. Steven O'Brian of Environment Inc.
was present during the inspection.
Platte Sand & Gravel LLC. filed a complete 112 Construction Materials Amendment Application
(AM-O1) with the Division on May 24, 2004. To date, seven objections to the application have
been filed by interested parties. This matter is set to go before the Mined Land Reclamation
Board (MLRB) at the August 24-25, 2004 Hearing.
The mine site is located approximately 2.5 miles northwest of Platteville in Weld County,
Colorado. The purpose of the Amendment is to change the postmining land use on Sharkey's
Lake and Longhorn Lake to Developed Water Resources with the installation of a slurry wall.
Along the river corridor, the area will remain as Wildlife habitat. In addition, the site
will be dry mined once the slurry wall has been installed. The first area to be lined is the
Longhorn Lake. A bentonite slurry wall will be installed using trackhoes and keyed in 3 feet
to the shale. Once mining is complete at the Longhorn Lake, a slurry wall will be installed
around Sharkey's Lake and tied into the Longhorn Lake slurry wall.
No mining was taking place in the Longhorn or Sharkey's Lake areas. Mining has taken place
at the site in the production area and the bluffs. Approximately y, acre pit has exposed
groundwater, but no pumping of the groundwater was taking place during the inspection. 12
new gas/oil wells have been drilled since the permit was issued on 8-10-2001. In addition,
new gas lines have been installed. The operator will need to address impacts to all new
wells drilled and existing gas lines in regard to the installation of the slurry wall. The
map will need to clearly depict all gas lines and wells within the germit area.
I & 8 Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Rocky Hoffachneider ^ BL
OPERATOR Platte Sand & Gravel LLC. ^ FS
STREET P.O.
