(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-87-016
INSPECTION DATE: 25/16/01 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ~L1~L
OBSERVATIONS
This was an acreage reduction inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Don Blake of Lincoln County. The
site is located approximately 24 miles north of Limon, Colorado and 1 mile east of U.S. Hwy 71. The pit is situated within an
active tributary channel of Vega Creek and is 2400 feet long and 180 feet wide. The area bordering the site is typical Eastern
Colorado gently rolling shortgrass rangeland dominated by Blue grams.
As noted, this inspection was conducted as the result of an acreage reduction request by Lincoln County. This request is part
of an overall plan to reconfigure the pit's shape and dimensions. During a previous inspection conducted on 2/3/2000, it was
noted the small amount of disturbance created by the county was exceeding the 180 width of the pit but clearly not affecting
the entire length of 2400 feet. It was suggested at that time that the county may want to reconfigure their pit boundaries to a
shape that would be more conducive to the operation of their equipment as well as to provide for a better material stockpiling
area. There is a procedure allowed under DMG policy that allows for site boundaries to be re<Jrawn as long as the areas being
removed have not been disturbed. This is the case with this site. The operator desires to delete areas off both the north and
south ends and replace a like area on both sides of the remaining section. This basically reconfigures this permit area from a
long thin rectangle of 2400 by 180 feet into a rectangle that is approximately 800 by 500 feet. This will provide a better pit
configuration for the county's road operation. As the areas requested to be released have not been disturbed by mining, this
acreage reduction request will be approved. Once this is completed, the operator can submit the second part of this action,
which is a technical revision/amendment that will re-configure the permit area and add back in an area roughly equal to that
which was deleted.
This concluded the inspection.
cc: jim Stevens-DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD ICH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Don Blake
OPERATOR: Lincoln County
STREET: P.O.
