. ~
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the La Plata Coal Mine for the month of August, 1998. The
site remains much as it has for the past few months.
ROADS: The reclaimed roads have good stands of vegetation on them and should be fairly stable
for light to moderate rainfalls.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: Vegetative growth is very good at this site therefore erosion is at a
minimum. The only detraction at this site was due to an extreme thunderstorm 2 years ago
which caused the main gulch to erode the slope below the geo-fabric. This area has since then
shown no further signs of damage and will not need repair at this time.
GENERAL MINE COMPLIANCE: The overall condition of the mine is very stable. Further work on
the sediment traps is not required as the site does not contribute any more sediment than the
surrounding undisturbed land
RECLAMATION SUCCESS: overall outstanding. Patches of leafy spurge are starting to develope
and will require spraying. Dan, since you have not read this report or the last one, you now owe
me two beers.
