Pa e 2
MINE ID # OR INSPECTOR'S
PROSPECTING ID #: M-1995-023 INSPECTION DATE: 06/28/2006 INITIALS: RMW
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Division of Minerals and Geology (Division) monitoring program.
Present at the inspection were Richard Wenzel from the Division and Harry Corkle of Corkle Construction.
At the time of this inspection, no mining was taking place. However, numerous pieces of equipment were located
throughout the site. Entrance to the pit was restricted by a steel gate. A sign was posted at the entrance of the pit
identifying the site as the Corkle Pit; however, the permit file identifies the site as the Peterson Pit. The permit
boundaries were marked on all sides by fences. All mining activity has taken place within the permit boundaries.
Mining is progressing from south to north as indicated in the mining plan with all mining up to this point taking place
in Phase I. The leading edge of mining is delineated by a highwall approximately fifteen feet high. In areas where
mining has been completed, the slopes vary from between 2H:1 V and 3H:1 V and appear to be stable with variable
amounts of vegetation. Topsoil is stockpiled along the eastern permit boundary and is covered with a moderate
amount of vegetation. To the north of the mining area, a layer of gravel has been placed over most of the permit
area to provide a surface suitable for mining traffic use. However, the Division recommends that prior to spreading
gravel over a site, the topsoil should be stripped, stockpiled and vegetated for stabilization in orderto preserve itfor
reclamation.
Overall, the pit is well maintained with all activities being performed in accordance with the approved mining plan.
The only problem noted was the sign identifying the pit as the Corkle Pit rather than the Peterson Pit, which is the
name the Division has on record. Therefore, the Division recommends that the owner submit a notarized letter
requesting to change the name of the pit in the permit file from the Peterson Pit to the Corkle Pit.
A review of the current bond indicates that the Division holds a bond in the amount of $20,900.00. Based on the
current conditions at the mine site, this amount is sufficient to cover the cost of reclamation.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Richard Wenzel at the Division of Minerals and Geology,
Denver Office, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203, phone number 303-866-4935.
Enforcement and Inspection Contact Address
NAME: Mr. Harry Corkle
OPERATOR: Corkle Construction Company
STREET: P.O.
