_..
INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. 80-135
DATE: August 8, 1985
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. Pit #1 does not appear to have been mined for quite some time. Water
encompasses about 2 acres surface area. Slopes are near vertical in
some parts around the lake and sloped about 2h:ly in other areas.
Material piled on northeast and southeast sides. (Slides 23-25 looking
west rotating south to north).
2. Pit #2 area under water. Large stockpile of material on east, north
and southwest sides with smaller scattered piles on south side.
Appears material recently removed from north side of north stockpile,
and from south side of south stockpile. Cottonwood trees have been
encompassed by south stockpile (photo 26 looking northeast at southwest
side of stockpile). Power pole on north side is partially under water
and seems to be slightly tilting to the southwest. (Slides 27-31
looking north rotating east to west from middle of area.)
3. Pit #3 is also under water. Stockpile of material on northwest side.
Does not appear any activity has occurred at this area for quite some
time. Most of lake shoreline is graded properly except for vertical
face on north side adjacent to haul road. (Slides 32-33 looking south
from Pit #2 area rotating west to east.)
4. Pit #4 was not inspected due to inaccessability to this site.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Operator should apply for temporary cessation due to lack of activity
at this site (reference enclosed rule).
2. Operator should make every effort to remove stockpiled material from
around cottonwood trees on southwest side of Pit #2. Due to the
maturity of these trees, it would not be advisable to kill off these
trees.
3. Operator should contact power company and have them remove the power
pole from the north side of lake #2 before it falls in and creates more
of a problem.
4. Operator needs to immediately submit a map depicting location of
topsoil stockpiles at the various sites. Such stockpiles could not be
located during this inspection.
5. Operator should reclaim those areas that will not be used in the future
to bring back this land to a productive status.
2596E
