Technical Memo -SILV-EX Spill Monitoring Report
December 5, 2005
Mountain Coal Company
Hydro-Geo, Inc.
126 Elk Avenue - PO Box 2979
Crested Butte, CO 81224
RE: MCC SILV-EX Project
Mr. Frank,
Please f nd enclosed the data report for the 14 samples you submitted for analysis on Friday, Dec. 2, 2005.
Based upon wnversation with you and personal review of the MSDS for the product SILV-EX, the following
analytical was undertaken : GC/MS scan for presence of organic portion (Butyl Carbitol and Ethanol), Ammonia,
pH, and Sodium. The concentrated product was also analyzed far all of these constituents and the fndings are
indicated in the report form.
In respect to the organic portion of the product and the GC/MS scans, all analyses proceeded without anomalies
and no presence of this organic material was identified in any of the 14 water samples submitted. The raw product
has some significant reactions when mixed with water, mainly that of creating a large quantity of foam. Upon agitation
this foam production is greatly increased. Upon diluting some of this raw product with distilled water for GC/MS
fingerprinting, the analyst made the determination to run the fingerprint without agitation upon dilution and with
significant agitation after dilution but prior to running on the instrument. The resulting fingerprints showed the
fallowing:
The diluted sample without agitation showed approximately 70% volatile components by volume.
The diluted sample with significant agitation showed a drop in the volailte components to approximately 40% by volume.
The assumption is made that during the creation of the foam, the volatile components are volatilized off and are not
retained as dissolved components in the water.
In respect to the other analytes of concern, there was a slight presence of ammonia found in several of the samples;
there was also a slight increase in the sodium concentration for samples 1A and 2A. Significant amounts
of both analytes were present in the raw concentrate as is indicated in the report.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with you on this project. We would welcome the opportunity to work with you
on other projects in the future.
Sincerely for
Enviro-Chem Analytical, Inc.
Liese K.
