(Page 21
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-575
INSPECTION DATE 10-25-99 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine inspection, conducted as part of the Divisions monitoring plan for permitted mine sites in Colorado.
The site does not appear to have changed since the last inspection in 1995. Unfortunately, the problems addressed in that
inspection report were never addressed by the County. Those problems are reiterated below.
• This site has been inactive for over 180 days. Therefore, La Plata County must either submit a notice of temporary
cessation as specified in Rule 1.13.5121, reactivate the site, or reclaim the site. The County al:o has the option to
submit an application for technical revision that addresses changing the operation to intermittent operation status, as
specified in Rule 1.13.7.
• The mine identification sign is in compliance. The permit boundary for this site is not adequately marked so it is readily
identifiable. La Plata County will need to install a few markers to identify this boundary.
• The site is covered with weeds, though no significant infestations of noxious weeds were no~:ed. The County is
encouraged to perform weed control measures so the site is not overrun with weeds when reclamation begins.
• The southern topsoil and overburden stockpile has begun to support a stand of grass that protects this resource from
erosion and weed infestation. However, weeds are still scattered across this pile and may require spraying or other
weed control measures to ensure they don't spread. The northern topsoil and overburden stockpile does not currently
support any significant vegetation except a few weeds. This resource needs to be protected by establishment of
beneficial vegetation.
Because these problems, ant their corresponding required corrective actions were listed in the last inspection report, they
must be addressed adequately, so they do not escalate into possible enforcement actions.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to:
Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Steve Shuey, phone
no. 970-247-5062.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Nan Bedau
OPERATOR La Plata County
STREET 26616 U.S. Hwy 160 South
CITY/STATE/ZIP Durango.
