~-
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the King Coal Mine for the month of January, 2001. The weather
conditions at the time of the inspection were blowing snow and low clouds.
ROADS: Roads are well maintained and have 3 gravel & fabric drains to prevent possible off site
damage.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: Both ponds had water in them but were not discharging. All culverts and
ditches appear to be capable of functioning as designed.
GENERAL MINE COMPLIANCE: The site is well maintained and stable and the "bone-yard" is cleared
of waste. No problems were noted during the flight.
EXCESS SPOILS AND DEVELOPMENT WASTE: The waste pile is stable and all water is diverted off
the top and into ditches. Work on the 100 year clean water diversion ditch and the riprapped side ditches
has been completed and all appears to be functioning as designed.
