III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado Division of Minerals and
Geology. No one represented the operator during the field inspection.
Roads
The cable across the road at the top of the hill has fallen down and needs to be put back up. The paved
road was in good condition. Some debris from the adjacent property was on the road but did not pose a
problem to access. The bridge was functional. The gate was locked.
Hvdrology
The east side spring has cut through its channel so that some of the spring water was ponding neaz the
mine office. The spring channel needs to be reestablished. The east spring was coming out of the hill
side at a point about one third of the way up the hill, about forty feet above the level of the facilities
azea. The temperature of the spring water was taken at a point about twenty feet below the point where
the spring came out of the hill side. The temperature was 98 degrees Fahrenheit. The air temperature
was 78 degrees Fahrenheit. There was no evidence of the west spring.
The water level in the sediment pond was at the primary dischazge gate. The gate was closed so there
was no discharge, The river level was high and this pond water may have been river water that had
percolated into the pond. There was also standing water in some sections of the collection ditch
adjacent to the river, perhaps also water that percolated in.
The flood control berm between the river and the facilities area was functional. There were no
problems with the two alluvial wells.
Facilities
The mine office was in a run down condition.
c:/word/bear/insp0605
