There has been
considerable site work done by the operator, which will allow the Division to more accurately
calculate the needed bond. It also tends to keep the needed bond lower. When figures are
prepared, they will be sent to the ooerator for review.
Items noted during inspection included:
Signs and markers were present.
Operator has set up a screen and crusher at the load out on the east aide.
Pit has been partially backfilled, possibly only temporarily, but no grading of elopes within
pit has been done. Outer margins, however, of former extent of pit appear to have been well
graded, forming a smooth, gentle "crater-like" surface. It is a surface that appears ready
for topsoiling. Further grading may be done as more material is pushed into area of pit
being excavated, finally ending at the bottom and center of pit.
The topsoil piles have been disturbed, but evidently for purposes of screening them. Topsoil
is thin and rocky here. Operator has stated that once screened, the waste can be replaced
ae subsoil, and clean topsoil applied over it. This inspector concurs that better
revegetation may be possible this way.
Other equipment noted here includes a small agricultural tractor with backhoe, wheel loader,
tracked implement used for air drilling and a compressor. There were no stockpiles of
product present.
Offsite, 100 feet southeast of the permit area, is a small sediment control dam. The vast
majority of the permit area that has been disturbed drains to this direction. This is a new
structure, earthen and rock, and not yet vegetated. It is 150 feet long, 10 feet high, 30
feet wide at the base, side elopes of 1:1, and 7 feet of freeboard at the 2 outlets (each
end). There was no water impounded. Operator stated that this structure is on another
landowner's property, but permission is granted for said structure, and that is is planned
to stay on this location. Due to the small size of the watershed area draining to this dam,
and the operation's topography, this inspector feels that, if maintained, this dam should
serve to contain atormwater runoff.
Also offsite, adjoining the permit area to the east, is an operations area and pile of
material from this pit. Operator stated that this is an old pre-law area and material, which
looks to be the case, from the vegetation growing amid the material. It seems to be small
sized, and possibly unsaleable, due to the fact it was left there. Operator is removing it
to eventually clean up this adjacent site. This inspector was left with the impression that
it has been partly utilized to construct the dam and for some pit backfilling. It is not
this inspector's impression that this constitutes offaite damage on the part of the operator.
Site was found to be clean and orderly
I & E Contact Address
NAME Bill Tezak
OPERATOR Colorado Quarries
STREET 2'70 S 15th St
CITY/STATE/ZIPCanon City CO 81212
There were no problems noted at the inspection
cc: Jim StevensJDMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
