` ~ (Page 4) MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-493 INSPECTION DATE 9/4/97 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ACS 6 . 3 -Dam'-~^~~ , 3-Dam impounds the Ten Mile Tailing Pond, and is located in the Ten Mile Creek drainage basin. The 3-Dam grading and capping project was inspected. During the summer of 1997, the 3-Dam out slope was graded to a consistent 3:1 slope, and capping material derived from borrow areas located below the dam was applied. The last loads of this capping material were being spread during the day of this inspection; this final capping of 3-Dam is a substantial achievement under the terms of the Climax Mine reclamation plan. In addition to the borrowed capping materials, the old aggregate pile, identified as area C19 in the 1989 permit amendment, was used and depleted in the 3-Dam capping project. The main borrow area for the 3-Dam capping project was inspected. Reclamation sloping of this pit was underway. The regraded borrow pit slopes were measured at 17 degrees, or 3.25:1, This sloping betters the reclamation sloping objectives for the borrow areas. 7. Other Inspected Locations Mayflower Pond and 5-Dam were inspected, including the area of the inactive ion-exchange water treatment plant at the toe of 5-Dam. The Ten Mile drainage ground water monitoring locations were pointed out. No problems were noted at these locations. The historic mining disturbances in Searle Gulch were inspected. These disturbances are not covered by the approved reclamation plan for the Climax Mine.
