Rob Kisner of Colorado Lien Company was present during
the inspection.
The Munroe Quarry is a surface gypsum operation with a permit area of 240 acres and an
affected area limit of 70.7 acres. A 110 permit was issued on June 16, 1977 for a permit
area of 9.9 acres. In 1996, the permit was converted to a 112 permit for a total area of
240 acres. The operator commits to a maximum disturbed area at any one time to 9.9 acres.
This includes any areas stripped, actively mined, stockpiles and plant sites. It does not
include any areas that have been backfilled, regraded and revegetated.
The mining plan states that an estimated depth of 4" of topsoil will be removed and
stockpiled for future reclamation. Overburden (up to 35 feet thick) is removed by
drilling and blasting or by a bulldozer. The material is moved to a previously mined area
for backfill. The gypsum is stockpiled and hauled off site. The mining area is divided
into four areas referred to as Body A, B, C and D. Body A comprises 20.6 acres, Body B
totals 23.6 acres, Body C is a small gypsum bed to the north and totals 4.8 acres and Body
D totals 21.7 acres.
A portion of the site was backfilled and graded in January and February of 2004. The area
has yet to be seeded. The atockpilea will eventually be moved into the active pit, and
the footprint areas will be reclaimed. The operator anticipates seeding this area within
the next few weeks.
The active pit area contains a pit highwall and atockpilea. The depth of the gypsum is 12
feet to 32 feet in depth. Overburden material is placed in areas that were previously
mined. Mining is progressing towards the south.
The Division holds a bond in the amount of $34,800.00. This amount of bond appears
adequate to reclaimed the disturbed areas.
2 & 8 Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Mr. Rob Kisner ^ BL
OPERATOR Colorado Lien Company ^ FS
STREET P.O.
