INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. M-80-146
DATE: October 16, 1985
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. The operation is permitted to affect 8 acres.
2. Inspection of the site revealed vertical-face highwalls demarcing the
North and East Pit boundaries. Overburden mixed with topsoil was
"pushed up" into the western portion of the permit. This stockpile was
placed directly upon undisturbed, vegetated land. Pursuant telephone
correspondence with Mr. Jack Gilleland (October 22, 1985) clarified the
need, and C & J's future plans to segregate "topsoil" from "overburden"
and stockpile each separately. Topsoil stored longer than one growing
season should be graded to slopes no steeper than 3H:1V and seeded with
a perennial cover crop for conservation purposes.
Topsoil will be salvaged prior to a~ disturbance.
3. Mr. Gilleland stated that he is attempting to purchase the land east of
the permit boundary, such that he may continue to mine in through the
"hill", daylighting to ground at approximately the same elevation as the
pit floor. This would eliminate the need for extensive backfilling.
4. On October 28, 1982, the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board increased
the Bond from X2,500.00 to b5,000.00. Mr. Gilleland was reminded of
this in early October.
The bonding company is correcting the bond amount. The bond is in the
mail.
CMF/mis
4387E
