Page 2/2 Deserado C-81-018
16 June 2004
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): -Pond DP-1 contained water at a level just below the
discharge pipe. The pond was discharging from the small weep-hole in the primary
discharge pipe. The pond embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be
stable. There were no erosional problems on the pond embankment. The
emergency spillway was well maintained and stable.
-The roadside ditches along the mine access road and the haul road to the refuse
pile appeared to be stable and well maintained.
- The fresh-water lagoon was observed from CR-64. The pond was well maintained
and stable at the time of the inspection.
Processing Waste: -Refuse Pile RP-2/3/4 appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection.
-Stockpiling refuse on pile RP=Sa has stopped. The operator has not yet started to
spread the stockpiled refuse. The stockpile is in the same place it was last year, on
the southeast portion of the pile. Scott indicated that the task of spreading the refuse
has gone out to bid. The pile appeared stable and no water was pooling on the
surface.
- Refuse Pile RP-1 was well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection.
Proposed Disturbance Sites: - We walked the proposed water line relocation site (MR-
127) as part of the BLM's EA and did not find and problems related to wildlife or
vegetation. It is believed that the BLM will approve this revision in its entirety.
- We also visited all 11 proposed exploration sites and walked all proposed new
roads. There were only two sites that were of minor concern to the BLM with regards
to wildlife (specifically to the prairie dog population). The BLM asked BME to move
proposed exploration hole M approximately 15 yards east, away from potential
prairie dog mounds. This was done while we were at the site. The BLM also asked
BME to move proposed exploration hole L approximately 10 yards west, for the same
reason. This, too, was done while we were at the site. It is expected that BLM will
approve BME's NOI in its entirety.
