The soil appears to have a sandy sVucture
which may not retain adequate moisture for revegetation during dry periods. The operator is encouraged to increase the
organic matter in the soil, possibly by spreading weed free hay over the area and discing it in prior to reseeding. Soil sampling
for fertility is also recommended. Fertilizer or organic matter applications are not currently a part of the approved reclamation
plan and will need to be incorporated into the plan prior to any application.
Control of annual weeds is highly recommended to increase the available moisture for the desired vegetative species.
There are several piles of material (rock/dirt mixtures) along the perimeter of this area. The operator indicated that any
desirable soils would be spread over the pit floor, and undesirable material would be transported to the highwall base as
backfill.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to: Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125,
Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Steve Shuey, phone no. 970-247-5062.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Kevin Hunt
OPERATOR Montrose Countv
STREET P.
