Merial Currier is my
spouse and since I spend more time at the ranch and am more familiar with the gravel pit
she has asked me to respond to the report.
We were actually on vacation at the ranch when your phone message came into Denver.
Sorry we missed you on the inspection, especially since we were both there on your
inspection date. For future reference, Merial's brother, Tom Currier, is always at the
ranch during the summer months and his phone number is (970) 487-3368.
In response to the problems noted in the report, I present the following information
accompanied by pictures. I took all of these pictures on September 24, 2006.
1. Lack of an identification sign. There is a sign posted along the county road at the
beginning of the gravel pit road I have included picture #I and #2 showing the
sign. This sign has been there for many years.
2. Lack of boundary markers. I have included pictures #3-#7 showing the boundary
markers. I tied survey ribbons on the metal posts showing the post number i.e. post
#1 has 1 ribbon; post #2 has 2 ribbons etc. There are 5 posts. Two of the posts had
to be reset. Post #1 was reset alongside a blue rag tied to some brush. (The post had
disappeared and we've been using the blue rag as our i.d. point.) Post #2 also had to
be reset since the other one was run over during the last crushing operation. Posts 3,
4, and 5 were there when you were there. Post #1 is on the right side of the pit
approach road. Post #2 is east of # 1. Post #3 is north of #2. Post #4 is west of #3.
Post #5 is southwest of #4.
3. Weed infestation. I did spray weeds at the pit on August 4 and 5, 2006. I have
receipts for spray purchase if you would like a copy. I have included pictures #8-
# 12 showing weeds at the pit that I did spray and are now dead. Note the drooping
heads of the thistle plants. This is typical of how thistles look when they die from
being sprayed. Many thistles still exist around the pit, but not as many as in prior
years. Our annual spraying is decreasing the number of weeds. However, whenever
the ground is disturbed thistles seed themselves and it starts over again. We have
