ORIGINAL -PUBLIC FILE
(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: AA-199?-~F3~
INSPECTION DATE: 11/lZlrld INSPECTOROS INITIALS: -aK-
OBSERVATIONS
The Division conducted a monitoring inspection of the site as part of sites
to be inspected with in the fiscal year 2004-2005. The site is a 112-clay
operation located in E1 Paso County approximately 2 miles South of Clahan
Colorado. Present during the inspection was Mr. Matt Welte of Summit
Pressed Brick & Tile. The site was not active at the time of the
inspection. When the site was last inspected, in 2000, the only problem
noted was, topsoil was not properly stabilized. The corrective action was
to stabilize the topsoil and prevent from siltation build up along the
County Road. Operator installed a silt fence along the county Roadside of
the permit and stabilized the topsoil. Topsoil stockpile located along the
West side of the permit was properly stabilized. No major sign of erosion
features noted. According the Mr. Matt Welte, present during the
inspection, the only activity at the site since 1994 had been removal of
material from the already stockpiled clay along the East side of the permit
area. There was evidence of fresh removal of material from the stockpiled
material noted at the time of the inspection. Mr. Welte also mentioned that
the operator plans to start mining with in the next month and plans to
change the sequence of mining and wants to start in the Phase IV area. He
was notified to submit a new map showing the new direction of mining and
changes to the phased operation. The existing plan calls to mine from east
to west in four PHASES.
Inspected the existing pit area, high walls were stable, pit floor was dry
with the exception of a very small puddle of water from the recent
snowstorms. Water was not sampled for PH. Permit sign and boundary markers
were properly displayed. Financial warranty is adequate to cover the cost
of phased operation. However, if the size of the phased operation is going
to be increased, the operator will need to notify the Division so the
warranty will be calculated accordingly.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: MR JOE WELTE Harry Posey (e-mail)
OPERATOR: SUMMIT PRESSED BRICK & TILE CO cc: r CE
STREET: P n ROX 533 t BL
r FS
CITY/STATE/ZIP: auFal ~, c~ Rtno~-n53s r HW
T HMWMD (CH)
r
CC: I' WQCD (CH)
