•
MINE:ZD # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-459
INSPECTION DATE 10/15/98
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Lake County Gravel Pit (Airport Pit) conducted by Erica Crosby
of the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. Steven Kleeberger of Lake County was
present during the inspection. Weather conditions on site were clear and cool. Ground
conditions were dry.
The mine site is located 1 y, miles southwest of Leadville on Airport Road and is permitted
to affect 8 acres. The site was last inspected by DMG on December 30, 1980. The pit was
surveyed in 1997 by Lake County and is roughly 6 y, acres in size. The material mined from
this pit is used as road base material due to the high clay content. Mining is progressing
to the north into the hillside. A crushing and screening facility is located on site. The
asphalt plant was moved to the Half Moon Pit roughly 2 years ago.
A mine sign was posted at the mine entrance with the required information. Permit boundary
markers need to be posted next spring around the affected area, and photographs of the
installed markers need to be sent to the Division. Steven Kleeberger stated that Lake County
might increase the mining operations to the north. If the permit area increases above 8
acres, an amendment to the permit will be required. If the permit area increases above 10
acres, then a conversion application to a 112 permit will be necessary.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Steven Kleeberger
OPERATOR Lake County
STREET P.O.
