III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Marr Strip Mine conducted by Harry Ranney of the DMG.
Aerial photographs were taken on June 7, 2004. The aerial photographs were reviewed by Mike
Boulay of the DMG. Weather conditions were clear and sunny at the time of the flight. Ground
conditions at the site appeared to be dry.
There was no activity at the site at the time of the flight. The permanent access road into the
mine site appeared to be stable and in good condition. The surface facilities azea and perimeter
azeas appeaz to be well maintained and no problems were noted with this aerial inspection.
Sedimentation Ponds D, B, and A aze visible in the photos. All of the ponds were retaining water
but did not appeaz to be discharging. The water level in Pond D appeazs to be low. Pond
embankments appeaz to be stable and well vegetated and no problems were noted at any of the
pond locations.
The majority of the mine site appeazed to be well vegetated and the site is beginning to green up.
Photos are enclosed of the Pit 1 area, the Marr Pit, and 720 Pit and Overburden Area. Of these
locations the Pit 1 Area appears to be browner in the photos and possibly less well vegetated than
the other pit locations. Overall the site is in good condition and no major erosion problems were
identified from the aerial photographs.
