Snow cover consisted of 4" snow depth throughout most of the proposed
permit area. The proposed Line Camp Pit is located approximately 9 miles NE from Dolores, at 21944 Hwy
145, in portions of the SW %< of the SE %. of Section 22, T33N, R22W, NMPM, Montezuma County. Mining
activities had not commenced.
The application proposes an 18.9 acre permit area located entirely on the Dolores River terrace. All portions
of the permit area are described as affected lands. Conventional excavation methods will be utilized to extract
alluvial materials from the river terrace, excavation depth is approximately 20'. The application indicates that
excavation activities will expose groundwater, pit dewatering will be required. On-site processing will include
screening, crushing, washing and production of concrete and asphalt products. Affected lands will be
reclaimed to support pasture land and developed water resources post mining land use.
All portions of the proposed permit area appeared to have been previously cleared of native vegetation and
graded to support agricultural activities. The site and location of permanent man-made structures appeared
consistent with the descriptions provided in the application with the exception of the mine access road, pit
access road, gravity drain pipe and the fence line immediately east of the permit boundary. The application
appears to indicate that the mine access road, pit access road and gravity drain pipe are pre-existing
structures. However, DMG inspectors did not observe these structures. The application may need to be
amended to include portions of the proposes access road and pit access road, to be constructed to support
the mining operation, and all portions of the 700' long gravity drain pipe and associated outlet channel, to be
constructed to support the mining and reclamation operation, into the boundaries of affected lands.
The alluvial deposit, as observed along the Dolores River banks, appeared to be composed of approximately
90% andesite, 5% quartz sandstone, and +/-1 % each of basalt, shale, siltstone, conglomerate and altered
shale and siltstone. Manganese staining was common on rocks near the water level. Rare occurrence of iron
staining was observed on some of the sandstone cobbles located within the river channel.
Adjacent to the permit area, approximately 90% of the Dolores River channel appeared to be partially
obstructed by rocks placed across the channel bed to divert water to an irrigation head gate. The irrigation
head gate was located on the opposite side of the river (east river bank) from the permit area and appeared
to be associated with an irrigation ditch located on lands owned by an adjacent landowner.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to the Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino
del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Wally Erickson, phone no. 970-247-5469.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Arvol Brumley
OPERATOR Four States Aaareaates, LLC
STREET P.O.
