III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion.of observations made <br />tlunng the inspection: comments also tlescnbe any entorcei <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the eriforcement action. <br />This aerial inspection was flown on May 19, 2004. There were no compliance problems observed <br />during the overflight. Due to annual leave, the digital images were not reviewed until June 1, 2004. <br />There was no snow at any of the mine site azeas. <br />West Mirie <br />The upper azea of the reclaimed portal bench has a moderate amount of ground cover, although there <br />aze a few azeas with spazse vegetative cover. No erosional gullies and no signs of geotechnical slope <br />instability were appazent. The bottom of the upper sediment pond was wet but there was no standipg <br />water. However, there was a moderate amount of standing water in the lower sediment pond. Pond <br />embankments appeazed to be stable. <br />East Mine <br />There have not been any changes in reclamation since the last inspection. There is still some mine <br />machinery on the crusher/screener bench and elsewhere. Concrete structures were still in place. The <br />mine roads were in good condition. There were no signs of slope instability with any of the cut and fill <br />slopes. Of the four bin-walled sediment ponds, three were dry. The second pond from the top had only <br />a little water in it. <br />There have not been any new additions to the West Ridge waste pile. There were no signs of erosional <br />or geotechnical instability. There was a good stand of vegetation on the pile. There was a fair amount <br />of water at the sediment pond. <br />Run-Of Mine (ROM) Stockpile <br />There was no activity at the ROM pile. There was no ponding of water on top of the stockpile. The <br />haul road appeazed to be in good condition. There was a fair amount of water in the sediment pond. <br />The embankment of the sediment pond appeazed to be stable. <br />c:/word bowie 1 /irisp0504 <br />
