III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This was a complete inspection of the Hamilton Mine conducted on June 18, 2007 by Mike <br />Boulay of the DMG. Dave Andrews, Honeywood Coal Company's contractor was present <br />during the records check portion of the inspection. Weather conditions were sunny and hot. <br />There was no activity at the mine site during the inspection. <br />Availability of Records <br />Dave Andrews brought the records to the mine site from his home in Norwood. Al] required <br />records were available for review. Please see the attached records checklist at the end of this <br />inspection report. <br />HydroloQic Balance <br />Sedimentation Ponds A and B were inspected. Both ponds were dry. Pond inlets, embankments <br />and discharge structures at both pond locations were in good condition. <br />Roads <br />Roads and road ditches were dry and stable. The access road to Ponds A and B was rutted in <br />some locations, otherwise roads throughout the site were in good condition. Culverts were clear <br />of sediment and debris and in good condition. <br />Reve eg tation <br />Numerous Tamarisks are well established in the bottom and eastern side slope of Pond B, and in <br />the bottom of Pond A and along the inside of the pond embankment. Canada Thistle and <br />Russian Knapweed were identified at Pond B. Although not a noxious weed, White Horehound <br />is present at Pond A. To ensure compliance please control the growth of troublesome weeds <br />throughout the mine site. <br />Reclamation Success <br />Ground conditions were very dry at the site and vegetative cover is beginning to tum brown. <br />No significant erosion features were noted in any of the reclaimed areas. <br />
