III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the Chimney Rock Mine for the month of February, 1998..
RECORDS: Records were inspected and found to be unorganized and not updated. Revisions
that have been approved by the Division have been filed in the filing cabinet instead of the being
properly posted in the permit document. Any citizen trying to find required documents or locate
current reports would spend an inordinant amount of time sifting through several piles of paper.
The files must be organized, updated, and all required reports and inspections must be on hand in
the same location as required by the rules and regulations. This action is to be comp/eted no
/ester than April 15, 1998 or enforcement actions wi// be taken. See page 5 of this report for
more details.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: All ponds have been removed and final drainages have been
established. As the site has been relatively covered in snow all winter long, no signs of any
appreciable erosion could be observed.
GENERAL MINE COMPLIANCE: The site received approximately 6-10" of new snow and other
than the records, the site is well maintained.
