(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1978-172
INSPECTION DATE 8/7/03_ INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology. The Antelope Hills Pit is a 112c permitted site located north of Cory, Colorado. The inspector left a
message with the operator s representative concerning this and 1 other inspection. No response was received therefore,
the sites were inspected at the inspector s convenience without a representative present.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. The
sign is located at the main entrance to the site. Permit boundary markers are white posts that are clearly visible around
the majority of the pit.
The inspector noted several stockpiles of various materials within the pit floor area. A loader was observed near one
stockpile, which appears to have had some materials removed recently. Other stockpiles have been there a while as
evidenced by weed growth on the piles.
The road and pit floor are weed free for the most part and well-maintained.
It appears that mining has been done along the northern edge since the last inspection. The excavation area is sloped at
3H:1V or better. Some annual weeds such as kochia and Russian thistle were noted. Halogeton was also observed
through out the area, however none is considered a noxious weed at this time. Some minor riling was noted on the
slopes but as this is not a reclaimed area and no topsoil appears to be present. The riling is not an issue for this area.
Along the east side of the day lighted pit edge, the inspector noted that the berm had been compromised and a major gully
has been cut down the bank into the arroyo. This issue is being noted as a problem under erosion and storm water
with a corrective action at the end of this report. The gully will need to be repaired and the operator should review the
storm water control for the site to prevent future impacts.
The area along the south that has been noted as reclaimed was observed. Some minor riling was noted in this area. The
topsoil material. has been impacted due to the lack of vegetation on the slopes. Some rabbit brush was noted with
halogeton, however, no other viable species of vegetation were noted. The operator should consider reseeding the entire
area. The inspector s estimate for acceptable vegetation cover is less than 1 °k. This issue is not considered a problem at
this time, but the operatdr should beware that the efforts of revegetation appear to have failed and the continued erosion
will result in a future problem being noted if not corrected.
Five (5}, fifty-five gallon barrels were noted sitting on the
staining was noted. The lack of proper secondary coi
proper
without proper secondary containment. Some minor soil
all
are
The mining area was free of unnecessary debris. Some mine related materials such as crusher screens, timber and an empty
fuel trailer were noted. A container on the east side of the pit, which is marked as a missile container was noted. The
inspector was unsure of its purpose, but no hazardous materials appeared to be present so it is not considered an issue at this
time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
18 E Contact Address
NAME Larry Record
OPERATOR Delta Countv
STREET 501 Palmer St. Suite 227
CITY/STATE/ZIP Delta.
