(Page 2) •
MINE ID/~# OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-094
INS~EC'fION DATE 02/03/99 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OBSERVATIONS
This was an inspection of the Westhoff Pit conducted by Erica Crosby of the Colorado Division
of Minerals and Geology. Gary Westhoff representing Morgan Sand & Gravel was present during
the inspection. Weather conditions on site were cool and very windy. Ground conditions were
dry.
The mine site is located 9 miles North of Fort Morgan. The permit area encompasses 40 acres.
The mining and reclamation permit was issued on December 20, 1979. The site was last
inspected by the Division on September 14, 1989. The bond currently in place is in the
amount of $13,000.00.
The site is an active dry mining operation. A permit sign was posted and boundary markers
were in place. Pre-law mining disturbance was noted immediately north-west of the permit
area.
Mining in Phases I and II are complete, and the operator is in the process of reclaiming the
affected areas. Reclamation consists of reclaiming small piles of overburden material and
topsoil replacement. The active mining area encompasses an area of 10 acres. Mining is
taking place towards the east into a highwall cut roughly 15 feet to 20 feet high. The total
affected area to date is estimated at 22 acres. Topsoil piles were noted on site, and it
appears enough material is in place to reclaim the site.
Two large gullies were noted just south of the affected area. The gullies extend from the
south side of the permit area into undisturbed terrain. According to the operator, the
gullies were formed as the result of a 12" rainstorm event that occurred last year. The two
gullies are roughly 5-10 feet wide and 15-20 feet deep. The gullies should be repaired as
soon as weather conditions permit.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Garv Westhoff
OPERATOR Morqan Sand & Gravel
STREET P.O.
