(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: +U_7499-nne
INSPECTION DATE: ~-R-nd INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: JD-
O6SERVATIGi~iS
Completed and inspection of this operation as part of a Mined Land Reclamation Board directive to inspect
every mine in the state at least once every four years. The site was last inspected February 18, 1999.
This is a large 112 operation containing approximately 561 acres. Only 111 acres will be disturbed. The operator
is mining a quartzite layer from south to north along a mesa. Areas A, B, and C will be mined in sequence. Most
of the acreage is public land that is managed by the BLM. Part of the permit area is state school land. Mining is
limited to the footprint of the quartzite outcrop, with a minimum setback of SO feet and a maximum setback of
100 feet from the outside edge of the deposit. The operator is in compliance with this restriction.
The quartzite is blasted and sorted. Because the material is so dense and hard the large blocks (4 feet plus) are
most desirable. They are usually used for rip-rap. The smaller material is generally used for landscaping.
A mine ID sign has been posted at the entrance of the mine site. The affected land area is delineated by the
edge of fhe quartzite layer.
Did not observe any problems.
The financial warranty was just recently Increased (May, 2003) and is adequate to fund final reclamation.
Dan Grenard
BLM
3170 E.
