Lochhead
Exec W ive Dueaor
ntichael B Lnnti
Divnion Diream
I inspected the JD-9 Mine on February 1, 1996, and found no visible evidence of subsidence at or
near the mine facilities. However, the ground was covered with at least 12 inches of snow. As
a result, the Division will make an attempt to re-inspect later this spring during more favorable
weather conditions. It would be helpful to have a sketch of the particular area in question where
there is believed to be subsidence from the JD-9 Mine.
Also, there was a discharge of approximately 5 gallons per minute of treated mine water from an
airshaft, near the airstrip. I have asked the operator for verification of an approved water discharge
permit from the Colorado Department of Health regarding this matter.
Please call either me or Jim Stevens at (303 866-3567, if we can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Thomas A. Schreiner
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Jim Stevens, DMG
M:\oa.VD-9.w
