The permit area consists of approximately 53.1 acres
which will potentially be affected by mining and reclamation
activities. Actual extraction will impact approximately 41 acres
through the life of the mine. The mine plan indicates a phased
operation. Stage 1 of the mining operation consists of some 21.87
acres. Approximately half of the available material in the Stage 1
area has been extracted over the last 12 years. Completion of mining
in Stage 1 is not anticipated in the near future. The Stage 3 area is
currently utilized for stockpile and processing activities.
Additionally, a small lake lies within the Stage 3 area. This is the
result of mining under a 111 permit which was subsequently converted
into the present 112 operation.
Mineral extraction in the Stage 2 area will commence upon completion
of extraction in Stage 1. To date, the area contained in Stage 2 has
not been affected by mining activities. After Stage 2 mining has been
completed, mineral extraction in the Stage 3 area will commence.
Issue
On 2/13/92 an I & E inspection was conducted by Berhan Keffelew
representing the Mined Land Reclamation Division. The subsequent
inspection report noted the followingiproblem with the General Mine
Plan Compliance:
