III. Comments/Compliance
This was a partial inspection conducted by Jim Burnell of CDMG on Friday, October 7,
2005. Weather was clear and dry; there was a lot of mud from recent heavy rain. The
mine site was quiet.
The Pit 1 area west of the entrance road showed good revegetation in general- tall
wheatgrass (mostly western, some crested), basin wild rye, squirreltail, with abundant
sagebrush and scattered Canada thistle. In places the vegetation was patchy, with less
cover than most of the area. There are numerous rows of old snow fence at the top of the
hill on the west end. On the west side of Pit 1 -accessed from the county road -there is
good vegetation also, but a great deal of Canada thistle, especially in the bottom of the
drainage.
In the area of pit 1 upstream from pond D there were some contour furrows along the south-
facing slope to prevent erosion. Wheatgrass, both western and crested, dominated the
slopes, with a much greater proportion of sagebrush on the flats. The channel itself was a
grass-lined swale.
The road to the minesite was in good condition. There were effective rock check structures in
the deeply-incised road ditch. Signs were present but need to update the location of the
mine records to the new office.
Ditch PD4 in the pit 1 area (reclaimed 1996) is a shallow channel, poorly-defined over much
of its length, with some short gravelly stretches. Nowhere along its length is the ditch deeply
incised, so it displays no active down-cutting.
The twin culverts where PD4 crosses the access road were clear.
Ditch PD-3, also in pit 1, is avaguely-defined grass-lined channel over most of its length.
Near the bottom end there is some 3-4 inches of downcutting, but nothing of concern. There
is a large area with sparse vegetation along the channelway.
Pond G was dry; the embankments were stable. Pond F was dry and the embankments
were stable. Pond E contained some water; the embankments were stable. Pond D also
contained some water; the embankments were stable.
The facilities area was stable. This is a large gravel pad with clumps of wheatgrass and
basin wild rye.
The topsoil piles for ponds F and G were stable and well-vegetated.
