(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2001-106
INSPECTION DATE: November 14, 2001
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AI~Y_
This was apre-operational inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Sill Trujillo of Huerfano County. The
site is located approximately 1 mile southeast of Gardner, Colorado. The pit will be situated along an old alluvial terrace on
the south side of the Huerfano River. The top of the terrace is approximately 30 feet above the flood plain of the river. The pit
will be mined to a depth of 20-30 feet and basically daylight onto the flood plain.
The site is presently used as rangeland and the post-mining land use will also be rangeland. Pre-disturbance vegetation
consists of blue grams dominated grasslands on the terrace top with a shrubby grassland mix on the terrace outslopes
including small junipers, yucca and mountain mahogany with a blue grama/Indian ricegrass under-story. Soils appear to be
reasonably deep on the terrace top and thinner and rockier on the terrace outslopes. There were no permanent structures
located on or adjacent to the permit area with the exception of livestock fences. There is an old domestic dwelling
approximately %< mile north of the proposed site that is inhabited on an infrequent basis and should not be impacted by the
proposed mining plan. Hydrologic impacts should be minimal as the site is located so as to not receive concentrated overland
flows. Overall, the mining plan should have little impact on the surrounding area. There was a public notice posted at the
gated entrance to the site that was visible from the county road. The permit area was clearly marked using tee-posts to
delineate the boundaries. No problems were noted and the inspection was concluded.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Drew Nierini-County Planner
OPERATOR: Huerfano County
STREET: 401 Main Street.
