Present
at the inspection were Richard Wenzel and Carl Mount from the DMG and Billy Clark and Bill Underbrink from
Grand County Department of Road and Bridge.
The Kremmling Airport Pit is located on the south side of the Kremmling Airport southeast of Kremmling, Colorado.
The pit is accessed from the west side from Highway 9. A steel gate secured the entrance to the site and a sign was
posted identifying the site as the Kremmling Airport Pit. Permit boundaries were clearly marked with survey stakes
and flagging. Several stockpiles of processed gravel were located at the west end of the site. East of the gravel
stockpiles, where mining activities have stopped, is a 2:1 (H:V) slope. No vegetation was observed on the slope.
Above the slope, the overlying topsoil has been stripped off from an area estimated to measure approximately 200
feet from west to east and approximately 300 feet from south to north. The topsoil has been stockpile on the north
end of the site. Little to no vegetation was observed growing on the topsoil stockpiles. However, per the mining
plan, the operator has indicated that topsoil stockpiles will be reseeded if they remain in place longerthan two years
prior to reclamation. If this applies to the current topsoil stockpiles then the topsoil stockpiles will need to be
reseeded.
No active mining was in progress during this inspection and no equipment was on site. The site appeared neat and
orderly and was free of trash and debris. All activities and completed work at the time of inspection appeared to be
following the guidelines set forth in the mining plan for the pit. All operations and conditions at the time of the
inspection fall within regulations.
Enforcement and Inspection Contact Address
NAME:
OPERATOR:
STREET:
CITY/STATE/ZIP:
Billy Clark
Grand County
467 E.
