(Page 2)
MINE ID $) OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1978-093
INSPECTION DATE 9/29/04 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OBSERVATIONS
This was an inspection of the Newett Quarry conducted by Erica Crosby and Carl Mount of the
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. Michael Golliher of Colorado Lien Co. was present
during the inspection. The site is located 12 miles east of Buena Vista off Highway 285 in
Chaffee County, Colorado.
The Newett Quarry is a 112 limestone operation, permitted for 26 acres. The permit was
issued on July 28, 1978. The Division holds a reclamation bond in the amount of $71,650.00.
The approved postmining land use is wildlife habitat.
On October 4, 1999, Colorado Lien submitted a technical revision (TR-01) to update Exhibit C
to reflect the 26 acre permit boundary and address an alternate access road. Colorado Lien
was unable to obtain permission from the landowner to leave the existing access road "as-is,
of the revision be withdrawn. However, Colorado Lien requested that the new map submitted
under TR-O1 be retained because it more accurately defined the 26 acre permit area. Upon
further review of the correspondence related to TR-O1, it appears that only the road issue
was to be withdrawn from the revision. The revised map was intended to reflect the defined
26 acre permit area. The Division will change the status of TR-O1 from "withdrawn" to
"approve" in order to include the map as part of the permit. Notice of this will be
submitted under separate cover.
A mine identification sign and boundary markers were observed. Mining is to be accomplished
in 7 phases. The operator is currently mining in phases 1 and 2. The material is drilled
and blasted in order to remove the overburden to uncover the limestone. The depth of
overburden ranges from 15 to 20 feet and is placed on both sides of the working face.
Stockpiles were noted in the lower portion of the mine. The operator stated that limestone
was hauled from the piles this past spring.
I & 8 Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Michael Golliher ^ BL
OPERATOR Colorado Lien Co. ^ FS
STREET P.O.
