•- 1.
PUBLIC NOTICE
~,
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology proposes to reduce the inspection frequency for the
Grassy Gap Mine (Permit No. C-81-039) from an average of 12 inspections per year to two
inspections each year, one in the spring following runoff and one in the fall.
The Grassy Gap Mine is a revoked/forfeited coal mine located in Routt County, approximately ten
miles south of Hayden, Colorado. The permit area is located in Sections 20, 21, 28, 29, and 31;
Township 5 North, Range 87 West of the 6th P.M. The disturbed area encompasses approximately
337 acres.
This reduction of inspection frequency is proposed since this bond-revoked site is entirely reclaimed
and supports the post-mining land use of livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. No structures or
features at this site pose a risk to the public or the environment. Some funds are available for site
maintenance and are planned to be utilized as deemed necessary by the Division of Minerals and
Geology.
This decision is based on a complete inspection and a written fmding as required by Rule 5.02.2(8)(a)
of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act, Section 34-33-101, et seq., C.R.S., and the
regulations promulgated thereunder. Copies of the written fmding are on file for public inspection at
the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver,
Colorado 80203, and at the County Clerk's Office in Routt County, 522 Lincoln Avenue, Steamboat
Springs, Colorado 80477. Persons with an interestthat may be adversely affected by the proposed
reduced inspection frequency may submit written comments to Kent Gorham of the Division of
Minerals and Geology within thirty (30) days of publication of this notice.
