will complete reclamation to the satisfaction of the DMG and land owner. And, I might add that a date as to
when these gravel piles will be depleted is unknown and unpredictable at this time.
During our discussions about our failure to follow previous commitments, it is often difficult to honor long range
commitments due to the nature of our work. For example, within the past week we have experienced a
mudslide where a 200 foot section of road failed on Kannah Creek Road. We must respond quickly to this
matter. The equipment and manpower presently used to retrieve topsoil at the A.2 Road Pit must be moved to
the mudslide for remedial work. All reclamation activities will cease at the A.2 Road Pit until the mudslide is
mitigated. Chances are we will use mare material from some gravel pit than anyone could have imagined
years or even months ago. Or, we may find a borrow source closer to the slide and not need to import
material. Upon completion of work at the mudslide, however, it is our goal to return to the reclamation activities
at the A.2 Road Pit.
Mesa County has neither the resources with which to address both activities at the same time nor are we
financially able to address both matters simultaneously. The road failure, in this case, has a higher priority.
mention this incident as a typical example of our inability to sometimes meet commitments, especially those
with specific dates forecasted years or even months prior, We will continue to strive, however, to meet our
commitment to reclaim all gravel pits in Mesa County as timely as possible.
In conclusion, we are committed to full reclamation, contouring and seeding, during this calendar year on these
four gravel pits.
Approved,
~.
Ro o H.
