The upper road (haul road) to the new II-West waste facility was under construction. It was <br />in good condition at the time of the inspection. The ditches along the road were in place and <br />contained straw bales and the culverts were in place. The construction was ready to start on <br />the dam as the site was cleared and the keyways were prepared into the Rollins sandstone <br />(photo above). <br />The area at the entrance to the mine was inspected. There, a ditch from the entrance area <br />slope contains a series of check dams and straw bales to allow settling from that slope <br />before the water enters the culvert underneath the town of Somerset Pond A contained <br />some water. <br />At the upper end of the Elk Creek disturbance, the alternative sediment control was all in <br />place and functioning. There was a small flow in Elk Creek (-10 gpm.) <br />The Elk Creek topsoil pile was stable and not eroding. There was some whitetop on the pile <br />and a lot of annual weeds (pennycress and yellow sweetclover mostly), but the cover was <br />good -probably 60% vegetation and litter Straw wattles were in place along several levels <br />
