MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1980-170
INSPECTION DATE 11 /21 /01
(Page 21

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
This inspection was performed by the Division as part of its monitoring of Hard Rock and Metals 110(21 permits. The
operator was contacted to arrange a time for the inspection. The operator and representative named on page one were
present throughout the inspection. The site was not being actively operated at the time of the inspection, and was not
open for tours.
The required permit ID sign was observed posted on the locked entrance gate near the north end of the permit. Several
T-post markers were observed along the boundary, which matched corners depicted on the permit map. There are no new
areas of activity, and all activities appear to be within the permit boundary.
The roadways, parking areas, tracks, mining-related structures, and tour-related structures were in good condition. The
portal appeared to be open, though there may be a locked grate inside the adit. The timber shed at the portal appeared
to be in good condition. Though the map shows a fuel storage area, no fuel (diesel) is stored here now. Fuel is either
carried in for daily needs, or supplied by the overhead electric now present, as appropriate. No contaminated soil or water
was observed. There is very little debris or parts onsite.
The portal discharge is conveyed across the site via an existing ditch, as is approved. The discharge flowed clear, at an
estimated rate of 10 GPM or less. The ditch channel was vegetated by water cress, and did not exhibit staining. The
water quality has been documented, and the water is approved to be discharged at this location.
The around surface along several hundred feet of the discharae convevance ditch exhibited scattered thistle plants (Canada
thistle?I. Regardless of the species, it is on the State's noxious weed list as a plant which must be controlled. The
presence of the thistle is noted as a problem in this report, under the topic of "reveaetation." The corrective action is to
prepare and provide an adequate, written noxious weed control plan, and a commitment to implement it at the first proper
season. The plan should be prepared with the help of a qualified weed control authority (county weed officer. CSU
cooperative extension, commercial applicator. for examplel, and submitted to this office by the correction date. Please
see the last pace of this report for the correction date. Timely and thorough treatments will help control the spread of this
weed, especially since it exists adjacent to flowing water which leaves the site. (Please note that the correction date is
the permit anniversary date, which allows sufficient time for plan preparation and convenience of submitting the plan with
the annual report.)
The bond has not been reviewed in several years. Reclamation costs will be recalculated this winter, and new figures sent
to the operator for review. In case of bond increase, new bond amount must be provided within 60 days of notice.
There were no additional items observed or discussed. All responses or questions about this inspection report should be
directed to this inspector at the Division's Durango Field Office.
