III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This was an aerial inspection conducted by the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. The <br />overflight occurred on December 16, 2003. No compliance problems were observed during the <br />overflight. The digital pictures were reviewed on December 31, 2003. Snowfall covered the mine site <br />azeas. <br />West Mine <br />The entire West Mine azea was covered in snow. There were no obvious problems with slides or <br />erosional gullies. The road to the West Mine azea from the Steven's Gulch road was snow covered but <br />appeazed to be passable, as was the road up to the West Mine fan site. <br />The two sedimentation ponds were covered in snow. The snow layer in each pond was neaz the bottom <br />of each pond. The two pond embankments appeazed to be stable. <br />East Mine <br />The East Mine was also covered in snow. The road up to the portal bench from the Steven's Gulch <br />road was only partially covered in snow. There had appeazed to be recent traffic up to the portal bench <br />and up to the crusher/screener bench. The road to the run-of--mine stockpile was also snow covered. <br />Sediment ponds numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, the West Ridge waste pile pond and the run-of--mine pond were all <br />covered in snow. The. snow level in each pond was close to the bottom of each pond. Pond <br />embankments appeazed to be stable, as were the bin walls of ponds 1, 2, 3 and 4. <br />There were no recent additions to the West Ridge waste pile. The pile was covered in snow but the <br />collection ditches appeazed to be intact. There were no slides or erosional instability noted at the West <br />Ridge waste pile and at the old waste pile. <br />Slope Stability <br />There were no signs of geotechnical slope instability with any of the cut and fill slopes. <br />c:/word bowie 1 /insp 1203 <br />
