III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DRMS. No one represented the
operator during the field inspection but Bill Beaz represented the operator during the records check.
Roads
The paved haul road was in good condition. The cable along the outer edge of the road was in place.
Signs and Markers
The mine ID sign was on the post but the post was on the ground and needs to be put back up. The "no
trespassing" sign was up on the front gate.
Hydrology
The water level in the sediment pond was about a foot below the primary discharge pipe. The gated valve was
closed and the emergency spillway was functional. The collection ditch leading into the sediment pond had
sufficient capacity.
The hillside spring water treatment pond was discharging at about 20 gallons per minute. The discharge was the
usual orange color, which has been found to be in compliance with water quality standards. The standing water
level in the treatment pond was about 8 inches below the horizontal siphon pipe. The hillside spring was flowing
the usual orange color and was still contained in the channel that leads through a culvert to the treatment pond.
There were no problems with alluvial wells AA-1 and AA-3. Both well caps were on. The riverside protection
berm was in place and was functional.
Facilities
The entrance gate was locked. The mine office building continues to be in a state of disrepair.
Reclamation
The reclaimed access road on the hillside appeared to be stable. There was a good vegetative cover on the
backfilled area. The east backfilled fan portal also appeared to be stable. However, a hole that was venting
smoke or vapor has appeazed above and to the west of the westside backfilled portal area. There also was smoke
or vapor on the terrace just above the hillside spring location.
Records
The attached records checklist documents that the mine records were in compliance.
c: /wo rd/be az3 / i n sp 0407
