III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
HG Mine C-80-003
7 Apr 04
Page 1/1
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Hayden Gulch Mine conducted by Jim Stark of
CDMG. The mine has gone through a Phase I and Phase II Bond Release on all but
approximately nine acres. The weather was cool and clear and the ground was
muddy.
Most of the snow has melted from the HG mine site with the exception of the top of
the north-facing slope on shrub parcel HG-08. The remainder of the site, including
the access roads, was muddy.
Shrub parcel HG-08 was wet and muddy with water running off the slope into the
pond. There was only a small amount of snow remaining at the top of the north-
facing hill. There were no erosional problems from the run-off this spring. The parcel
was stable and well vegetated. The pond contained water and was discharging at
the time of the inspection (although the pond is no longer a part of the HG Mine
permit).
Shrub Parcel E was wet and muddy at the time of the inspection. All of the snow has
melted off of the parcel. The parcel was well vegetated and stable and no erosional
problems were noted.
The 1997 slump area was wet and muddy at the time of the inspection. All of the
snow has melted off of the slump area. The area was well vegetated and stable. All
of the steel stakes placed across the slope remained in alignment. No erosional
problems were noted as a result of the runoff this spring. Approximately 20 elk were
grazing on the slump area.
Shrub parcel 003 was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. All of the snow had melted off of the shrub parcel. There were no
erosional problems noted on the parcel due to the runoff this spring. Pond 003
contained water but was not discharging at the time of the inspection (although it
appeared to have discharged recently).
Overall the entire site was very well vegetated and in good condition.
