III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the ~nspect~on. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of CDMG. The weather on
this day was cool and breezy. This former underground mine is reclaimed. Some
buildings remain as permanent for use by the landowner.
Hydrologic Balance
The sediment pond appeared to be nearly dry. Standing water was not visible
around the edge of the cattails in the pond.
Processing Waste
The maintenance work noted in last months inspection has yet to be completed.
Comments from last month's inspection are as follows; The 100-year ditch above the
refuse pile requires cleaning in two areas. The first is a 200-foot section
behind the shop building. Sloughage from above this ditch should be removed and
placed on the crest of the ditch bank to the outside to ensure adequate capacity.
The second area requiring maintenance is about 50 feet from the west end of this
ditch. Sedimentation and ditch bank grading will ensure future function of this
section. Straw bales and roof bolts above this section of ditch should be
maintained or removed.
Revegetation
The growing season is effectively over. However, due to unseasonably mild
temperatures and limited moisture from a recent snowfall, some sprouting of
grasses and forbs was noted. The refuse slope has a very limited number of grasses
and forbs and ground cover appears to be a limited amount of litter from last
year's crop of annual weeds. Continued erosion of this slope seems highly likely.
The region would benefit from additional precipitation.
Overall, the site appeared in fair condition going into the winter season.
3
