(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2001-087
INSPECTION DATE: 11!15/01
OBSERVATIONS

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AIW
This was apre-operational inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Kenneth Klco representing Fremont
County. The site is located approximately 13 miles southwest of Parkdale, Colorado. The proposed operation would be
situated on a decomposed granite fan or (ootslope stretching out into an inter-montane basin or park on land owned by the
State Land Board.
The site is aloes-ridged fan extending out from a bedrock ridge to the northwest that rises up to a small localized mountain
ridge several hundred feet higher in elevation. The surrounding land is inter-montane parkland typically used for livestock
grazing and covered with native grasses such as blue grama and western wheatgrass along with fringed sage scattered
throughout the area. The majority of the site to be mined is a mature pinon-juniper community with a fair number of
ponderosa pines scattered throughout the area. The under-story consists of native grasses dominated by blue grama along with
a smattering of shrubs such as Mountain Mahogany. Soils appear to be of ample quantity and quality so as to meet the
reclamation plan requirements. Mining the site will require most of the area to be grubbed of trees prior to topsoil salvage,
however, to the extent possible, a visual screen of trees will remain along the south and east perimeters as it (its in with the
mining plan. A small storm-water detention structure will be located along the southeastern side of the proposed disturbance.
The mining plan calls for conventional excavation activities beginning along the southeast side and moving to the northwest.
Reclaimed slopes will be 4H:1 V and topsoil will be replaced at a minimal depth of 1 foot. There were no noxious weeds
observed on the site and the revegetation plan calls for using noxious weed free mulch.
Since the site is a low ridge, no drainages are present in the affected area. There are agreements to cover potential damage to
permanent man-made structures including the county road, a stock fence and buried telephone lines. The proposed permit
area was clearly marked and the remnants of the public notice was posted at the mine entrance. No problems were observed
which would preclude mining from occurring on this site.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Paul Garrett
OPERATOR: Fremont County
STREET: 615 Macon Avenue
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Canon City CO 81212
cc: Jim Stevens-DMG
Ken Klco-Azuri[e, Inc.
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
